Cool Date Ideas: Theme Parks

COOL DATE IDEAS WARNING: A DAY AT AN AMUSEMENT PARK CAN PUT A DRAIN ON YOUR WALLET FASTER THAN YOU CAN SAY “BROKE!”

With ticket cost, paying for parking, games, and food, you have to be very mindful of how long you plan to stay and how much you’re planning on spending.

It would DEFINITELY be a “cool date idea” for her to go half with you on some of the cost!

But if money is not an issue with you, then “no worries ‘mon!”

Rather than tell you how to spend the day at an amusement park with your girl, we will only look at the different types of theme parks (the most popular ones), their locations, and the possibility of taking a road trip if one is not close to where you are.

For the most part you have two main types of parks: Theme Parks and Water Parks.

Sometimes a water park is combined with a theme park, such as Six Flags Fiesta Texas’s “White Water Bay” in San Antonio, Texas, but most of the time they are usually stand-alone parks, SplashTown in Houston, TX, and “Wet’n Wild in Orlando, Florida and Greensboro, North Carolina.

Also, a very cool date ideas close alternative to amusement parks would be something like the Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, California, or a County or State Fair such as “State Fair of Texas” in Dallas, Texas which runs from September 26 – October 19.

The biggest question you should ask yourself is are you willing to travel to an amusement park if one is not located near you.

If you think about it, this would make for one cool road trip. Especially if you invited a few friends (couples) along, giving rise to the opportunity to share rental car and hotel cost (2 couples, 1 double-occupancy hotel room…enough said).

For instance, as of October, 2005 we no longer have Six Flags Houston. So I have two choices if I wanted to go to a Six Flags theme park: (From Houston) Six Flags Over Texas, Dallas/Fort Worth (about a 4hr drive), or (From Houston) Six Flags Fiesta Texas, San Antonio (2 ½ to 3hr drive).

On either of these trips I could be there and back in the same day, so look for that option when deciding to take a road trip to an amusement park if money and time is an issue.

If neither money, or time is an issue, then look at staying at a hotel or motel for a day or two and explore other things the city you are visiting has to offer.

COOL DATE IDEAS NOTE: ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTORS when considering visiting an amusement park is the weather. Nothing spoils your day more than a cloudless, sun-blaring day mixed in with a 50% chance of thunderstorms. So be sure to check ahead for what the weather forecast will look like on the day you plan to visit the park. Keep in mind that most theme parks offer rain check vouchers for inclement weather days, BUT ALSO be sure to check and see how long the voucher will be good for.

Another cool date ideas is to do “half-day” visits. Either arrive at opening and leave around noon or 1pm, or arrive at noon or 1pm and leave at closing (mostly because of the weather, especially if it freaking hot and humid out).

If you travel out of town to visit a large amusement park, do “half and half.” Arrive early, leave for lunch (saving you money by not buying the parks overly price-inflated foods)(get stamped so that you are not charged to re-enter the park), hang around the hotel until about 4 or 5pm (won’t be as hot outside around this time either) and go back for the evening until closing.

Most parks (such as the Six Flags in San Antonio) have fireworks displays at night, so plan to stick around for those as well. Check to see which park does what for their nightly closing shows (if they at all have one).

-Some parks have water parks. But if your girl is afraid of water, then skip.
